A Pilot Study of a CGM-Augmented Food Is Medicine Intervention
Overview
This study will first use a human-centered design (HCD) approach with feedback from patient stakeholders to develop a CGM-augmented FIM intervention that uses dietitian counseling and glucose data from CGM to support individuals in identifying and maintaining meals and eating patterns that minimize post-prandial glycemic excursions. It will then test the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of the CGM-augmented dynamic FIM intervention in a 12-week, 1:1 randomized pilot study enrolling 60 adults with type 2 diabetes and food insecurity, using a FIM intervention that does not provide counseling or make use of CGM data in the intervention as the comparator. Finally, it will explore participant and interventionist experiences and opportunities to scale to a broader population of adults with type 2 diabetes and food insecurity.
